Sayre, founded in 1901, was named after Robert H. Sayre, a stockholder in the Choctaw, Oklahoma and Gulf Railroad. After a prolific era of oil and gas development, the town has become a quiet burg. There are several beautifully preserved historic buildings to see. These include the 1905 First National Bank (now City Hall), the 1911 Beckahm County Courthouse (featured in John Ford's Grapes of Wrath) and the 1910 Art Deco Post Office. You can also stop to visit the RS & K Railroad Museum (411 North 6th Street), dedicated to model trains.
