Mintaro is reached via the scenic route that diverges from the Horrock Highway between Leasingham and Sevenhill. Mintaro, founded in 1849, is a historic hamlet of ashlar houses that looks as if it has stepped out of the English countryside. Mintaro's slate is world-famous for the manufacture of billiard tables. Martindale Hall, a Georgian manor house dating from 1880, is worth a visit before reaching Clare. The Mintaro website (www.mintaro.sa.au) is maintained by the hamlet's tourist promotion committee. You'll find information on accommodation, tours, local history and more.
