Forster is a small seaside resort 305 km north of Sydney. Founded in 1862, it is named after William Forster, a politician of the time. It is linked to its twin town, Tuncurry, by a bridge that crosses the Coolongolook River and Wallis Lake. Both towns draw heavily on the resources of the latter whose waters produce fish, shrimp and oysters for Sydney. Forster is a sleepy place outside of the summer vacations, with wonderful beaches and many caravan parks. It is an ideal base camp for visiting the Great Lakes Region (Wallis, Smith and Myall).
