Sevenhill, a pretty village some 130 kilometers from Adelaide, was founded in 1848 by Jesuit fathers. In 1851, they established the Clare Valley's first winery: Sevenhill Winery. The name " Sevenhills " was given to the village by its founder in homage to the seven hills of Rome. The village is organized around St. Aloysius Church, built in 1851, the same year the winery was established. Sevenhill is within easy reach of the Riesling Trail to the east of the village.
