This church is the largest in the city and embodies part of its face. It is a Brabantine Gothic basilica with an unfinished tower. It is not the oldest church in the city; this one is, paradoxically, the Nieuw Kerk, the new church. The church, built in 1504, was recently renovated. The tower, 65 meters high, is leaning and, like in Pisa, this is due to the unstable ground. The carillon, with 67 bells, is one of the largest in Europe.
