WIJNENDALE CASTLE
A castle located in Torhout with explanations about the history of the castle for a thousand years, and multimedia tools.
This imposing castle, built in the 11th century by the Count of Flanders, has been a theater of history: the site of an alliance treaty between Gui de Dampierre and Edward I of England, the residence of numerous counts and dukes, a strategic location during the raids of Louis XIV... Despite the passage of time and its tumultuous history, it has remained breathtakingly beautiful, with its lake and greenery! This listed site, now privately owned, can no longer be visited. But you can admire it from the outside, and stroll freely in the nearby woods!
