DRONKENPUT
This 200-ton "soulard's well" in Middelkerke supplies drinking water to many tourists.
Literally "The soulard's well". This 19th-century reservoir, built to supply drinking water to a growing number of tourists, weighs over 200 tonnes. After construction, a sudden rise in the water table caused it to tip at an angle of 12°. Attempts to right it were unsuccessful. Since then, Middelkerke has had its own mini Leaning Tower of Pisa. As you climb the staircase, you'll feel the strange sensation of the tank's tilt against the water's flat surface. Stunning!
