River Lys in Menin with an artificial island with a marina and a leisure area

The Lily, nicknamed the Golden River, cuts Menin in half. In the past, the river was the scene of intensive smuggling. Man has, time and again, changed his course. The final rectification and deepening of the river allowed the navigation of boats weighing up to 1,350 tonnes. Outside the town, in the direction of Wervik, there is a modern lock complex. Those dating from the 1920s are now out of use. Recently, an artificial island on the Lys River comprising a marina and a leisure area has been created.
