Museum housing a carefully selected collection tracing the evolution of scientific thought from the to the century.
Follow in the footsteps and discoveries of two personalities who influenced science in the 18th century: Georges-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon, and Louis Jean-Marie Daubenton, both from the town of Montbard. The museum, which has been awarded the "Musée de France" and "Maison des Illustres" labels, takes visitors on a journey through the history of science. You can see a collection that traces the evolution of scientific thought from the 17th to the 19th century, from the cabinets of curiosities to the Natural History Museum. Microscopes, armillary spheres, herbariums... all rub shoulders with objects that belonged to the two naturalists mentioned above. In November 2024, the museum reopened after several months of modernization. Make the most of it!
The Parc Buffon was laid out by the naturalist in 1734, on the site of a former château belonging to the Dukes of Burgundy. It can be visited freely all year round, and virtually on the museum's website. The park has been listed as a Monument Historique since 1947: stroll through its fourteen terraces and admire the remarkable panorama over Montbard and the Brenne valley. You'll also find the 14th-century Saint-Louis and Aubespin towers, the most visible remains of the former medieval fortress; don't miss Buffon's study, as well as the church of Sainte-Urse, which contains the naturalist's bones and magnificent frescoes and paintings, including a Nativity by André Ménassier dating from 1599.

Une dame d’accueil, vraiment super souriante et à l’écoute pour répondre à vos questions (au top !!!)
Un musée avec des expositions permanentes, ainsi que des expositions temporaires
Des grands jardins, pour se balader autour, et très bien entretenu

Par ailleurs nous avons bénéficié , à deux! d’une visite guidée des monuments du Parc , passionnante avec une jeune femme très agréable, et érudite , un vrai plaisir !
Cette visite restera un excellent souvenir !
Ce qui m'a le plus plu : un mélange de réel et de fantastique qui nous plonge dans le passé, à une époque où monstres, licornes, et autres créatures fantastiques étaient encore étudiés avec sérieux.
Des références à la culture populaire (Star Treck et Marsupilami pour en citer deux, sans gacher le plaisir de découvrirles autres!), présentées de manière "scientifique", et des interactions visuelles et auditives pourraient rendre ce musée intéressant pour les enfants et adolescents.
Un beau parc qui domine la vallée.
