The "Onzième Commandement" is a café-brasserie with a baroque decor of religious statues and stoup charms. Not surprising, given its location opposite Notre-Dame Cathedral. A fine selection of beers and Belgian specialties on the menu. The restaurant has quite a reputation. The honey-coatedribs were divine, as was the reasonably priced rabbit with plums. The place is worth a visit, but it's quite touristy. Probably because it's on the "World's best bars" list (www.worldsbestbars.com)...

This is the most casual of the Botanic Sanctuary restaurants. Its location in the building's orangery with its terrace overlooking the interior garden already sets the tone for the cuisine: natural and fresh. And that's exactly what you'll find on chef Wouter Van Tichelen's plates. The star product is the fish. We enjoy a turbot grilled to perfection with, in season at the time of writing, green beans with almonds, apricots, lovage, mushrooms and a superb sauce of green tomatoes in Madeira. It is fine, racy and the service is impeccable.

Luxury boutique upstairs, bistronomic restaurant downstairs, the Graanmarkt is a perfect marriage of aesthetics and pleasure. In the restaurant space, everything is beautiful, from the crockery to the lighting fixtures, and well highlighted by the white of the walls. The menu is also raw: 3 starters, 3 main courses, 2 desserts (or cheeses). On the plate, it's the vegetables that are sublimated (the restaurant was voted best vegetable restaurant in Flanders), such as this (deceptively simple) feast of beans, thyme beans and shiitake that accompanied a Frisian entrecôte.

Located in Antwerp's Chinatown, close to the station, this Tibetan restaurant is a wonderful discovery. The room isn't fancy, but the dishes are original. Try the divine soup of shrimp gyozas with lots of enigmatic aromatic herbs, marinated cucumbers with fried chicory, then very fine sweet potato noodles and sautéed minced pork, a delight. A refreshing change from Cantonese or Thai specialties. Very mild Ba bao tea. Affordable, tasty and practical to order to take away before catching your train.

This small restaurant has decided to celebrate everything that can be coated with breadcrumbs in the form of croquettes. Whether you're a carnivore or vegan, you'll find what you're looking for at Smaeck: beef, chicken, shrimp, cheese, mushrooms, vegetables, green curry, there's something for everyone! To top it off, there are also lobster and Black Angus croquettes. You can accompany these delights with a good cup of soup or a salad or try the bieterballen, fried dumplings, a Dutch specialty. Warm interior with large wooden tables.

It's the little brother of Fiskebar, which only opens in summer in the Eilandje district. With a name like that, you'll have guessed that it serves fish and seafood, as well as vegetarian dishes. Everything is organic and local, with fish on the menu according to the day's arrivals. Raw, cooked or grilled, the aim is to maintain the purity of the product, like these just-grilled sardines accompanied by a vegetable pickle and sprouted lentils. Enjoy them on the huge terrace overlooking the basins, or inside a glass box that resembles a greenhouse.

In a historic building, two-starred chef Bart de Pooter takes up the challenge of offering 100% plant-based gourmet cuisine. A successful gamble, since the restaurant has already been awarded a green star by the Michelin Guide! This award recognizes the chef's committed approach: a menu guided by the seasons, fresh vegetables, flowers and herbs from the restaurant's own garden or from local producers... The dishes are creative and delicate, served in a magnificent dining room enhanced by floral arrangements reminiscent of nature and the restaurant's name.
