The "Onzième Commandement" is a café-brasserie with a baroque decor of religious statues and stoup charms. Not surprising, given its location opposite Notre-Dame Cathedral. A fine selection of beers and Belgian specialties on the menu. The restaurant has quite a reputation. The honey-coatedribs were divine, as was the reasonably priced rabbit with plums. The place is worth a visit, but it's quite touristy. Probably because it's on the "World's best bars" list (www.worldsbestbars.com)...

Located in Antwerp's Chinatown, close to the station, this Tibetan restaurant is a wonderful discovery. The room isn't fancy, but the dishes are original. Try the divine soup of shrimp gyozas with lots of enigmatic aromatic herbs, marinated cucumbers with fried chicory, then very fine sweet potato noodles and sautéed minced pork, a delight. A refreshing change from Cantonese or Thai specialties. Very mild Ba bao tea. Affordable, tasty and practical to order to take away before catching your train.

The Hotel August restaurant offers top-flight gourmet cuisine, created by two-star Dutch chef Nick Bril. Barely open, it has been awarded the Gault & Millau label. Daring combinations combine seasonal and local ingredients with exotic touches. In the historic setting of a former Augustinian convent, tables are set along the corridor that runs alongside the original chapel. For those who want to enjoy a moment of calm in the city, the covered, heated terrace in the garden offers a privileged shelter.

Here, we revisit the gourmet fish & chips dish and vary it according to the fish available (caught exclusively in the North Sea). Saithe is prepared with "panko", seaweed fries and tartar sauce or Argentine chimichurri sauce, and sea bream in lemon basil tempura with truffle aioli. Burgers and tacos are also served, with vegetarian options. The fries are homemade (the sweet potato ones are divine). Funky music, high ceilings, wood panelling and retro stained-glass windows make for a pleasant setting.
