Reach the pretty town of Winona, 34 miles south of Wabasha, on the same bank. This is where you can best explore the banks of the Mississippi River. The town is almost like an island, wedged between the Mississippi and a lake. When you're in the downtown area, whether you're heading east or west, you're surrounded by water. Without having to go far from the center, you can take beautiful walks along Lake Winona on one side, on the banks of the Mississippi on the other. In the fall, it is a festival of colors reflected in the waters. Winona has been popular with the lumber barons since the 19th century, so there are many beautiful homes and buildings in its center.
