The site is located within the Kaibab-Paiute Reservation, which occupies approximately 489 square miles and is home to five tribal villages. This place preserves the history of settlement (with the arrival of the Mormons in 1850) and struggle in the heart of the desert southwest of the United States. A history that began with the presence of water, allowing plants, animals and people to live in this desert region. The ancient Puebloans and Paiute Indians thrived here for at least 1,000 years. The area has many attractions and buildings (visitor center, garden, orchard and a hiking trail) to better understand this rich period.
