Located 67 km southeast of Zion National Park, this small town of over 4,500 people was founded in 1870 by Mormon settlers on the site of an old fort abandoned a few years earlier. It is the ideal place to stay before reaching Grand Canyon, Lake Powell or Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. There are plenty of accommodations and restaurants, and supplies are readily available. The community also has an airfield for local flights and sightseeing tours of the area.Every year, the Western Legends Round Up is one of the major events that take place on the streets of the town. It honors the world of the West with country music concerts, cowboy parades, gun duels in the public space and screenings of mythical western movies.
