The island stands out for the transparency of its waters and, above all, the presence of its manta rays. Absolutely unique to Fiji, these rays are harmless and it's a special moment to swim among them and observe their strange and fascinating shape. The site is now a protected marine park and the focus of scientific research into stingray migration. It was also the setting for the 1980 film Blue Lagoon starring Brooke Shields. For the record, this is the rather dramatic story of two lovers and is based on the novel of the same name by Henry De Vere Stacpoole. The water is just as crystal-clear as in the film, and the setting just as idyllic.
