Not so long ago, Nadi (pronounced "Nandi") was a simple village planted in the middle of sugarcane fields. The development of tourism from the 1970s onwards promoted Nadi to the status of Fiji's tourist hub. With its international airport and central location giving access to both the Coral Coast and the Mamanucas and Yasawas archipelagos, Nadi has become an essential anchorage point. Situated on the "dry" part of the island of Viti Levu and surrounded by superb scenery - Nausori Highlands, Sabeto Mountain Range - Nadi, although devoid of any tropical charm, is an unmissable place to stay.
