A 6-hour drive from Jakar and 2 hours from Trashigang, Mongar is a small town bustling with archers training and devotees gathering at the foot of the large prayer wheel near the clock tower. We pass through here on our way up to Lhuntse (2h30 drive). From Mongar onwards, Sharshok, the local dialect, is spoken and the landscape changes. The valleys have steeper slopes, and settlements spread out at the top as the slopes widen. The region is covered with cornfields and hillside villages. Lemongrass is also grown in the surrounding valleys.
