The Yuto La pass (3,300 m) marks the boundary between central Bhutan and Bumthang, one of the country's most beautiful valleys. Jakar owes its name to the legend of the white bird that led to the founding of its monastery in 1549. A fairly modern city, Jakar can be reached by plane from Paro airport, to visit the cultural heart of the kingdom. Rich in beautiful temples and concentrating the country's religious history, this valley is dotted with fields of potatoes, buckwheat and barley. Since the 1990s, the valley has been steadily urbanizing. On the other side of the river, a farm with stables (Swiss) produces cheese and fruit juice.
