Ljugarn is an old harbor located on the border between Sudertredingen and Medeltredingen. In the 17th century a lime kiln was built at the bottom of the harbor and at the beginning of the 18th century another one, "Storugn". Until the 19th century, lime, limestone, tar and wood products were all exported from the port of Ljugarn. In 1880, the "Big Kiln" was extinguished, and the lime industry came to an end. Remnants of the kilns still remain at the port. Ljugarn was also the first seaside resort in Gotland, and became successful thanks to Princess Eugenie, who had been living in Västerhejde on the west island since the 1860s.
