The city is recent and as a result. It was once 15 km farther east (at the dam location)! After the construction of the Gates de Fer, it was rebuilt here, where the Cerna flows into the Danube. Its monastery Sfânta Ana (1939) dominates the river is very photogenic. The city is the gateway to the gorges of Cazan (Cazanele Dunării), the most spectacular gorges of the Danube. The vegetation is subméditerranéenne and the rocky walls plunging into the river measure up to 350 m. The landscapes are superb to Moldova Veche (department of Caras Severin, 75 km east), a small village partly inhabited by Serbs. On the road you will enjoy visible Roman and feudal remains along the river and, at the exit of the Cazanele Cibd parade, the famous Rasa Ulpia (Trajane Table) carved in the rock.
