This town of 8,500 inhabitants is new, and with good reason: it was once located 15 kilometers to the east, at the site of the dam! After the dam was built, it was rebuilt where the Cerna flows into the Danube. At the top of Old Man's Hill(Dealul Mosului), the Sfânta Ana monastery, built after the First World War, overlooks the river. Don't miss the panoramic view over the reservoir. The town is also the gateway to the Kazan Gorge (Cazanele Dunării), the most spectacular on the Danube.
