Gulgong is a gold rush town, located a few kilometers from where one of the greatest Australian writers of the colonial period, Henry Lawson (1867-1922), grew up. Although he never settled in Gulgong, it was enough for the whole town to be marked by this prestigious personality. Unfortunately, not much remains of the small ghost town of New Pipeclay (now Eurunderee, 25 km to the south), where Henry Lawson spent his first 15 years, and which he described so well in his books Don't miss a visit to the town's museums and the Henry Lawson Heritage Festival in June.
