This former music hall with its many performances is Australia's oldest opera house still in operation.
It was first a music hall, built in 1871. From 1881, it presented numerous performances until the opera house, renamed Roxy, became a cinema, and this until the end of the 1950s. The building, initially made of wood, was then rebuilt in brick. The cinema closed in the 1960s and the building remained abandoned until 1974 when it was bought by the Gulgong Musical and Dramatic Society. It is the oldest opera house in Australia still in operation.
