The monastery of Koutaba lies deep in the hills of north-west Cameroon. The Cistercian monks arrived at Koutaba in 1968 and transformed the coffee plantation into a place of retreat and worship. In the middle of the site is a cloister built according to the plans of the cloister at Mont-Saint-Michel. Today, some twenty brothers keep the place alive, cultivating Arabica and distributing it throughout Cameroon, as well as exporting it to France. Don't leave without tasting the delicious elixir that is Koutaba coffee syrup. The monastery also offers full-board accommodation for visitors.
