An excursion not to be missed under any circumstances if you have the time and which takes you to an altitude of 4,200 metres. Desolate and grandiose landscapes, sometimes evoking the region of Uyuni and South Lipez in Bolivia. You enter the lair of shimmering mountains; a veritable festival of colours that juggle on jagged ridges or rounded domes. Between 1864 and 1873, 13 refuges were built on the road to Chile. One of them is still standing, near the lagoon: a skeleton (nicknamed El Destapadito) still lies beside him, it is a Chilean who died here from cold in 1964, and whose shoes are still in place!
