CHATEAU DE COMMARIN
Château de Commarin houses a bookshop, a café and a restaurant-wine bar with a terrace ideal for wine tastings
The Château can be visited inside and out every day. Located in Commarin, at the foot of the charming village of Châteauneuf, this property is a journey back in time to the 15th century, when it was a fortified castle. Inhabited by the same family for 26 generations, owner Bertrand de Vogüé makes every effort to keep this treasure trove accessible and attractive. Inside, discover architectural and furniture treasures from the 17th and 18th centuries, including a splendid collection of 16th-century heraldic tapestries and a beautiful library containing an original edition of Diderot and d'Alembert'sEncyclopédie ! Take a tour of the 14th-century chapel, home to an interesting terracotta "mise au tombeau", or the former kitchen with its huge cast-iron stove dating from 1880. Outside, admire the two round towers, the moat and the gardens. All year round, until 8pm in fine weather, you can enjoy the immense English-style park of over 35 hectares, sheltered by century-old trees. Concerts (piano recitals, oratorios...) and plays are even organized on certain weekends in this enchanting setting.
There's also a restaurant-wine bar on the premises: the Café du Château. You can enjoy a glass of vin de Pays des Coteaux de l'Auxois in the air-conditioned dining room or on the terrace. From here, you have a superb view of the château, and can stay until sunset. The creative Café team offers lunch at any time of day, with salads and cold meats/cheeses, or a picnic formula based on regional, organic produce. If the setting makes you want to get married, don't worry, you can reserve the sumptuous 17th-century stables, modelled on those in Chantilly.
If you're in the mood for a stroll, drop by the Boutique. The bookshop features a fine collection of books by local author Henri Vincenot. Gourmet products and wines emblematic of the region are available to taste or take away.
When you love it, you can't leave: head for the Château's houses. You can stay in the Maison Seguin or the Pavillon de Chasse, for a weekend, a week or more. The Maison Seguin offers 120 m² of modern comfort while retaining the charm of the past, with a private garden for 7 people. As for the Pavillon de chasse, with its 150 m² for up to 12 people, it can accommodate your friends or loved ones, with its spacious living room and garden! A Château to live in the heart of Burgundy!
