Ringkøbing, whose name means "the Rindum market" was a fair town. It is located in the west, on the Jutland peninsula. The town is said to have been founded in the 13th century. For a long time, it was the only real port on this western coast. Its prosperity was linked to the trade and export of tobacco, wool and soap. Ringkøbing has all the charm of a small Danish coastal town, with its colorful houses, its historical center and its traditional activities, such as fishing or, more modern, such as windsurfing. In addition, it has a large solar heating plant with an area of 30,000m2.
