The castle was first built for defensive purposes in the 12th century. The castle has survived many wars, particularly the Hundred Years War, but the lineage died out with Catherine de Châteauneuf in 1457. Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy, confiscated the fortress and entrusted it to Philippe Pot, future Grand Seneschal of Burgundy. From then on, life in the fortress was transformed into castle life with the construction of the Grand Logis, the guest house and the chapel. In 1936, the Count of Voguë, its last inhabitant, donated it to the State, which since 2008 has become the property of the Regional Council of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. Guided tours, animations, exhibitions and educational activities are offered throughout the year through a cultural season that is tremendously well orchestrated by the reception team.
