By the Panamericana Norte, at km 43, here is Ancon, beach of predilection of the well-to-do Limenians until the years 1960. Today, this small fishing port, which shelters a pre-Inca cemetery, lives on. The destination has become popular with the more modest social classes who live in the northern districts of Lima. The bay is pretty, and there are still remnants of the old Ancon here and there, but it's best to avoid weekends in summer or holidays. A little further on begins the Chancay Valley, a cultural center of the same name, which houses a medieval-style castle with entertainment and costumed characters on weekends
