VISITES DE BÈZE

Bèze's reputation has been well established, it is one of the villages you should not miss in Côte-d'Or. Its central point is the famous Vaucluse resurgence, source of the Bèze river, whose average flow rate is 4 m³ per second. The water is strikingly pure. Don't miss the splendid caves where the river flows just before its resurgence. The walk through the streets of Bèze is very bucolic, it allows you to discover medieval buildings, a chapel dedicated to Saint Prudent and a former communal washhouse which is original with its two floors, so it was usable, whatever the level of the river. You should not miss the abbey school in Gothic style either. It had up to 60 students, girls and boys from the highest Burgundian nobility. The defensive towers of the abbey, whose fortifications were destroyed in 1766, are still visible: the tower of Chaux (private) and the tower of Oysel overlooking the sisters' washhouse. Many other outstanding buildings are to be discovered along the streets. Several paths are marked out to discover this charming village, from which many springs flow, the most important is the resurgence. Add to that the presence of several restaurants, hotels, cottages and some shops to liven up or even extend your stay. Also enjoy the many events organised by the town hall or local associations, all motivated to share with us their remarkable heritage. Note that a major project to upgrade the cure and its huge park is being prepared. The wax statue of Canon Kir, which was once in the Grévin Museum, will be highlighted in this rehabilitated heritage.
