Avot is a small village of 150 inhabitants located on the banks of the river Tille, water is well present in the wash houses or fountains. The statue of Diana the Huntress, above the central fountain on the village square, beautifully rebuilt, reminds us that the area is wooded and rich in wildlife. To the south of Avot, along the D212 in the heart of the forest, is the former retting plant of Champignolles, an exceptional building close to a wash-house which was used to wash hemp to isolate the fibres.
