Created by presidential decree in 1997, it was born around the classified forest of Mafou and Kouya, covers an area of over 110,000 ha and straddles the prefectures of Kouroussa, Dabola and Faranah. This site is of capital importance. First, it is home to endangered fish species, second, it is home to animal and plant species necessary for the maintenance of West African biological diversity, and third, it is located in the migration corridor of large mammals between Guinea and other neighboring countries. An excellent place for tourism, even if nothing is really set up to receive visitors. However, there is the possibility of being accompanied by water and forestry guides who will lead you through the park in search of guinea fowl, monkeys, hippos, crocodiles, etc. Rates are negotiated on site. In the dry season, the animals gathered around the ponds are easier to observe, but generally speaking, they are difficult to find. In any case, if you want to enter the park, you will have to be self-sufficient for accommodation and food. In 2022, a curator for the park was again appointed, the former one having been promoted. Let's hope that the renewal started can continue after all these difficult years. For more information, contact Samoura Sidakaro at +224 628 35 52 16.
