The park is located about 160 km northwest of Kumasi, along the Ivorian border. This national park covers nearly 2,000 km² (1,821 km² to be precise), which makes it the third largest nature reserve in the country. It is located in a forested area benefiting from the many tributaries of the Black Volta. Alas, to tell the truth, Bui Park is not so glorious, and would be rather representative of the lack of investment of the Ghanaian state in the tourism sector, the development of the territory and natural resources, and the protection of the environment. If with a little luck, one can observe hippos, antelopes, deer, monkeys, baboons, buffaloes and even some elephants, poaching remains a real problem. Also, the park is severely lacking in maintenance and surveillance. Despite this, according to a census (unofficial), the hippo population amounts to 230 animals, the largest in Ghana. Many birds can also be observed. The park's tourist infrastructure is quite limited and in a rather poor state. They are actually limited to two chalets, where it is possible to spend the night. To enter the park, you will have to go through the Bui park office (info: www.fcghana.org - [email protected]), located at the entrance of the park, and pay the entrance fee (around GHC 50). Add a few cedis per hour spent with the guide.
