Museum dedicated to the famous painter with nearly 500 works including pastels, watercolours, drawings and woodcuts

The museum is dedicated to the Finnish painter Reidar Särestöniemi (1925-1981) and presents nearly 500 works including pastels, watercolours, oil paintings, drawings and woodcuts. The exhibitions change every six months according to the theme. The artist, who studied in Helsinki, returned to live and paint all his life on his native farm, drawing his inspiration from the Lapland landscapes and nature. Also temporary exhibitions.

Située d'une heure depuis Levi, le musée se trouve au bout d'un chemin qui traverse la fôret. Une fois arrivées on trouve la calme totale avec des bâtiments impresssionants : la vieille ferme présente l'histoire de la famille, l'atelier et maison de l'artiste est un vrai exemple de l'architechture moderne finlandais. La galerie héberge une exposition des tableaux impressionants -et un piscine (avec un sauna bien sûr)! Reidar Särestöniemi tirait son inspiration de la nature arctique, des légendes locales et la mode de vie au nord. La personnage de l'artiste est très fascinante ainsi que son oeuvre.

N.B. Pour arriver au musée il faut être motorisée sinon il y a des excursions (bus +visite guidée) depuis Levi Ski Centre pendant la haute saison.
