Located 6 km from Sayil, Xlapak or Ixlapak, whose name means "the old walls" was discovered in the twentieth century and was at its peak between 600 and 1000 AD. Only two buildings are visible among the vegetation. Buildings less imposing than elsewhere, but which present the same decorative style characteristic of the region. Nevertheless Xlapak was one of the most densely populated areas of the region and was probably under the domination of another more important site. Entrance to the site is unregulated, so visiting it is your own responsibility
