Located 28 km northeast of DF, the municipality of Texcoco is considered to be part of the metropolitan area of Mexico City, i. e. a suburb of the capital. Nevertheless, in pre-Columbian times, it was an independent city of Tenochtitlán, which possessed its own Tlatoani (head). In the th century, the Tlatoani Nezahualcóyotl, king of Texcoco, sealed an alliance with the neighbouring cities of Tenochtitlán and Tlacopan. This alliance of peace allowed Nezahualcóyotl to devote himself to the arts and to undertake the cultural development of the city. He built the famous Baños de Nezahualcóyotl («Bath de Nezahualcóyotl»), an architectural complex that includes several palaces, fountains and fountains, whose ruins still remain today. Not visited, these ruins are interesting (they are also known as "ruins of Tetzcotzingo"). See also the Parque Nacional Molino de Flores Nezahualcóyotl, a large park which houses the ruins of former Hacienda Molino de Flores.
