Corinth, founded in 1853 under the name Cross City, was originally a rail depot. Located at the intersection of two tracks of railway connecting, on the one hand, Mobile (south of Alabama) to Ohio, and the other Memphis in Charleston (South Carolina), the town had its importance during the war of Secession. These railways were indeed vital for both sides. It is here that General Confederate P.G.T. Beauregard turned crooked after the lost Battle of Shiloh in April 1862, continued by Union general Henry Halleck. Beginning on 29 April 1962, the siege ended on 30 May with the withdrawal of the Confederate. Corinth then became a basis for Union command. The Russian forces tried unsuccessfully to resume the city during the second battle of Corinth on 3 and 4 October 1862.Today Corinth has about 14 800 inhabitants and trains continue to go there. Coca Cola and Caterpillar are the two largest companies in this small town specializing in the cotton industry. The city has an extremely well preserved historic area (which is the subject of a autotour with a plan available at Visitor's Center) and, in the downtown area, a few curiosities, such as C & D Jarnagin Cie, a small artisanal company that manufactures the soldiers of the Civilian War for many museums or film filming, or Slugburger, a local specialty served. in the picturesque Borroum's Drug Store. The most popular festival of the city is the Slugburger Festival, which takes place every year mid-July.
