Located on the border with Botswana, about 50 km from Victoria Falls, Kazuma Pan National Park is much less visited and less developed than Zambezi National Park. Inaccessible without a 4WD, it is closed in January and February and can only welcome a few visitors. Although open to the public since 1987, it refuses day visitors and is not particularly easy to access. In short, the Kazuma Pan Park is not a place that one visits without being prepared beforehand. Shunned by tourists and travel agencies, it is nevertheless a terribly wild place, almost unique in Zimbabwe. The interest of the park lies in a vast clay basin extending in the southwest quarter of the protected area. Characteristic of the nearby Kalahari landscape, this huge alkaline area, partly covered by grass, forms an endless plain that holds rainwater in summer and attracts herds and migratory birds. Although Kazuma Pan Park only covers 31,300 hectares, it has an interesting fauna made up of elephants, buffalos, zebras, warthogs, lions, etc., but also much rarer species such as the wild dog, the eland, the roan antelope, the oryx or the oribi. To access the park from Victoria Falls, head towards Hwange and turn left towards Matetsi. Drive 25 km to a gate where you will pay the park entrance fee. From there, the rangers will show you the way.
