From a lost and dusty village, Victoria Falls quickly became a small and clean town, equipped with all the necessary infrastructures: hotels, restaurants, bars, banks, souvenir stores, travel agencies... A metamorphosis due to the influx of travelers who used the railroad line coming from the Cape. Entirely turned towards tourism, Victoria Falls presents a different face from that of Livingstone, more provincial, and it has the advantage of being located in the immediate vicinity of the falls, which are accessible by foot. During the last decade, the city has suffered a lot from the political and economic situation in Zimbabwe, which has made tourists flee to Livingstone, but the situation is improving. The misery of the population is still palpable, with a lot of begging and soliciting than on the Zambian side, but the shift from the Zimbabwean dollar to the US dollar has put an end to hyperinflation without ending the economic crisis. Prices here are now lower and travelers are returning in droves. But the situation is far from stabilized and the country continues to experience worrying ups and downs. You will see many Zimbabweans crossing the border to work in Zambia or to buy food. Many will desperately try to sell you some souvenirs between the border and the Falls Park; life is very difficult for the local people. Do not hesitate to buy souvenirs on this side of the border to help them even if some are very insistent, there is no alternative to find work and food is very expensive.
