Ideally located between Sicily and the cities of Scilla and Reggio Calabria. Opposite, the city of Messina and its strait, which can be crossed quickly by ferry. Villa San Giovanni is an important node of maritime, road and rail communication. Devastated by the earthquakes of 1783 and 1908, it has preserved very few ancient buildings. At Punta Pezzo to the north, the Sicilian coast is only 3.2 km away: it is the narrowest point of the Messina Strait. Continuing along the SS18, you reach the seaside resort of Cannitello, whose beach is the most pleasant in the area around Villa San Giovanni.
