Formerly called Barrero Guasú, the town took the name of the Paraguayan lawyer Eusebio Ayala (1875-1942), who was a native of the town and twice President of the Republic (1921-1923, 1932-1936). A member of the Liberal Party, he is known as the President of Victoria for his role during the Chaco War. For the anecdote, he was married to Marcelle Durand, a French woman he had met in Paris. The city is famous for its production of chipas, which can be found in Asunción and here, of course, on the banks of the Ruta 2. The buses usually stop at km 69 (Chipería María), km 74 (Leticia) or km 79 (Barrero) and let the saleswomen with their big baskets of chips get on. Let yourself be tempted!... ...
