Freising, a small Episcopal town built on a hill, is a concentrate of Bavarian history in itself. The German short-story writer Wilhelm Heinrich Riehl (1823-1897) was fond of saying that anyone who has never seen Freising knows nothing about Bavaria. With its hilltop cathedral, the Asamtheater, its small Marienplatz and its rich, colorful rococo houses, Freising transports you back to the 14th century. As a young university town, Freising continues its tradition of educational excellence. The city also boasts the world's oldest brewery (Weihenstephan). The great history of beer begins here.
