10 km south of Saqqarah, Dachour is known for its rhomboid pyramid, the most spectacular, and the Red Pyramid, attributed to Snufru of Dynasty IV, a much-loved pharaoh. These two pyramids are of major importance in pyramid building, since their construction later enabled the transition from a stepped pyramid to a smooth-faced pyramid, such as the Giza pyramid. There are other pyramids on the site, dating from the 17th and 13th dynasties, but not all of them are in good condition. Of the 10 pyramids at Dachour, 5 are still visible. Dachour is rarely visited: you'll probably have the pyramids all to yourself!
