The small village of Berg entered the history books on June 13, 1886. This is a sad date because it is the date of the death of Ludwig II of Bavaria who was found drowned with his doctor in the waters of Lake Starnberg. A cross in the lake marks the spot where the bodies were found and in the thick forest stands a beautiful and somewhat mysterious votive chapel. Berg was originally a fishing and farming village on the eastern shore of Lake Starnberg. Visitors still flock to Schloss Berg, the castle where the Mad King lived. Those lucky enough to spend the night in Berg can enjoy a beautiful sunset over the lake.
