Locally, it's known as Vermont's little Grand Canyon. Although the Quechee Gorge is far less impressive than the Grand Canyon, it's still well worth the detour. The source of this natural formation is the Ottauquechee River, which has shaped the rock to its present form over the course of the seasons. You can observe the Quechee Gorge from the road, on the Route 4 bridge, or opt for a descent of Mill Pond Falls on foot. At the end of the trail (about 30 minutes), you'll find a swimming area, which is very pleasant in summer. You can also picnic and pitch your tent in dedicated areas.
