The small town of Moultonborough, at the north end of the lake, has a population of less than 5,000. Take time to stop off at the Old Country Store, a shop and small museum housed in a building built in 1780, but the real attraction of Moultonborough is 5 miles south-east of the village: don't miss Castle in the Clouds, a beautiful building overlooking the lake and set in the heart of a large estate, where you can enjoy pleasant walks.
