Port-Taoufiq, or Tawfiq, was born out of the Suez Canal project. It is a median built in 1860 thanks to the excavations of the breakthrough. Several buildings of the canal company, as well as the dwellings of the canal employees and executives were built there. At the entrance to Tawfiq, a floating buoy greets the visitor, overturned on the grass. There are some buildings that were designed to accommodate workers or employees, or executives of the company; the stalls are different. In the extension of the terre-plein, a port divided into two large basins, one merchant, the other military, was built: Port-Ibrahim
