At 55 kilometres from Suez, and only 140 kilometres from Cairo, the proximity of this seaside resort is its only quality. The site is sad to death, and it is definitely a place to spend a weekend away from the city and contemplate the sea. The French community in Cairo loves to come here. The Aïn Sokhna ("hot spring") resort spreads out on the side of arid cliffs transformed into quarries. Hotels turn their backs on the desert and face a dull sea to the west, and an oil and gas port to the north (leftover fuel is sometimes found on the beaches).
