Padre Island is the longest natural barrier in the world. It protects the coast of mainland Texas for just over 200 km. Most of the island is protected by the Padre Island National Seashore, a nature reserve unique in the United States. Its miles of white sand beaches, dunes and wetlands are home to an incredible wealth of wildlife. An experience not to be missed, especially for those who enjoy fishing or outdoor activities such as boating or hiking. In the southern part of the island (accessible only from the south) lie the gaudy towns and resorts, including Port Isabel and South Padre Island (the city). There, vacationers flock to the island, attracted by the miles of sandy beaches. In February and early March, the south of Padre Island is invaded by American students, who flock there by the thousands for their traditional spring break, these vacations a little bit special that leave room for anything: drinking, parties that end three days later, beach, wet T-shirt contest, etc.. A crazy period that lovers of calm will avoid at all costs and that offers a striking contrast with the northern part of the island. So, do not go there between the end of February and the end of March, especially since prices will be more expensive during this season. If you want to enjoy the calmness of the sea air, we advise you to go in autumn, or after spring break in April and May.
