Continuing the road after Neves, we cross several rivers, including the Rio Provaz, where women wash clothes and little girls scrub pots and pans. At this point, the seaside landscapes rub shoulders with the steeper sites of the mountains, and on a clear day, just above the bed of the Rio Provaz, the peak of São Tomé can be seen, which culminates at 2,024 m in altitude. Like most northern towns, Ponta Figo is an old roça, once renowned for growing the best cocoa trees in the country. It is now abandoned. The surrounding area offers beautiful walks in the heart of a lush nature, especially towards the waterfalls.
